LRS Announces Service Changes Due to COVID-19 Risk:

March 23, 2020 - As an essential service to the public, LRS intends to continue to provide weekly pickup, as scheduled. They are, however, experiencing some driver shortages and may modify their plans to maintain services at a normal, or near-normal level.  As a result, the collection of bulk items, white goods, and e-waste will be temporarily suspended. Effective immediately there will be no collection of loose material, bulk items (mattresses, furniture, etc.), appliances, electronic waste, or other large items at the curb to reduce the risk to drivers.

Potential future changes may include Lakeshore commingling yard waste collection (scheduled to begin April 1) and recycling with regular waste. The plan is evolving and LRS will keep residents informed of their contingency plans.

 Western Springs Awards Waste and Recycling Contract

Village Trustees have awarded a 5-year residential waste and recycling contract to Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), beginning in January 2020.

Following feedback from a resident survey in 2018, the Village prioritized the elimination of blue bags. Residents will be able to choose between 35, 65, and 95-gallon waste and recycling carts, and whether they would like curbside or backdoor refuse collection. The fee for service, based on the size of container and type of service, will be billed directly by LRS. Stickers will only be required for refuse outside of the cart, special collections, or bags/bundle of landscape waste.

Your service day may remain Tuesday or Friday, however, the collection day for many households may change. See the LRS service map, which was revised again in December 2019, to confirm your collection day.

Carts may be switched out for different sizes at no charge, though March 31. Contact LRS to make arrangements. Initial bills for the first quarter are tentatively scheduled to be sent out on or around mid-February.  This could change slightly, depending on how many cart modifications residents request in the next few weeks.  Residents should expect to receive invoices around the 15th of the month preceding the next quarter.
